A Brief History


International Collaboration Network – Belt and Road Initiative (ICN – BRI, hereinafter called BRI Research Network or BRI Conference) was established at the first International Conference of One Belt and One Road hosted by RMIT University in Melbourne Australia on 30 November – 2 December 2016.

The BRI Research Network has generated opportunities for the researchers to publish their work in a series of Special Issues in high-ranked journals. The journals covered various BRI issues such as international logistics, supply chain management, international trade, aviation, and maritime transport and logistics.

These include Transportation Research Part E, Journal of Transport Geography, Transport Reviews, Maritime Policy & Management, International Journal of Logistics Management, Journal of Contemporary China (2017, 2019), International Logistics Research and Applications, Transportation Research Part A, Journal of International Logistics and Trade (2018, 2019), Sustainability, and Transport Policy.

The idea of creating an international BRI Research Network was initiated by Professor Paul Tae-Woo Lee. Eighty six participants signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on International Collaboration Network – Belt and Road Initiative (ICN – BRI).

The network was supported by School of Business IT and Logistics, RMIT University and Jungseok Research Institute of International Logistics and Trade (JRI), Inha University, Korea as the 1st BRI conference co-organizers. Professor Lee was appointed as the Secretary of the BRI network by a unanimous recommendation by the participants who signed the MOU.

The BRI Research Network has successfully organized a series of conferences. 2nd BRI Conference was held in Zhejiang University in Zhoushan, China in 2017, followed by 3rd BRI Conference in RMIT Vietnam University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2018, and 4th BRI Conference by Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand in 2019.
